Jaycee Lee Dugard, an 11 year old girl, was on her way to school in 1991. Before she got to the bus stop, a man and his wife tazed her and then pulled her into their van with a blanket over her head. For the next 18 years, she was held captive by Nancy and Philip Garrido. Two days later, Nancy and Philip were charged with 29 felony counts and Jaycee and her daughters went back home. Jaycee was 20 years old and her two daughters were 15 and 11. (World Book Encyclopedia)
Jaycee writes the book in detail of everything she remembers and what she thought during the 18 years of her captivity through her life. During this time she has two daughters, whose names she keeps private, fathered by Philip. At the end of each chapter, she reflects on what she thinks now as an adult with two children from her abuser
